Where are we going?

One day while driving, my 4 year old daughter asked, “Mommy, where are we going?” I responded, “Why do you need to know?” She politely responded with “I just need to know.” Instead of answering her, I began to ask her various questions…

Me: “Will knowing where we’re going help you get there faster?”

Her: “No”

Me: “Will knowing where we’re going allow you to change our destination?”

Her: “No”

Me: “If I’m driving and I know where we’re going, is there really a need for you to know where we’re headed?

Her: “No”

So then in closing, I made a final statement…”If I’m your mother and I know where we’re going, there’s no need for you to worry about where we’re headed. I’ve got this!”

Our Heavenly Father is trying to get us to understand this same message. He loves us, he is all-powerful, and he is all-knowing. Because of this, we can be secure with him in the driver’s seat. We don’t need to be a backseat driver and know the destination, but instead we should buckle up, take in all the beauty and life that surrounds us along the way, and remain steadfast in believing God’s promises. “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
